The
first ever McGuffin event was a Film & TV Quiz held on Saturday
February 10 2001 in the function room of Walthamstow's Rose &
Crown pub. The Quiz was initially envisaged as a one-off event to
provide 'seedcorn' funds for the newly formed Society. However,
the response was overwhelming with over 150 people pouring into
the function room to take part with a similar number being turned
away due to lack of space. This first Quiz was a great success and
raised substantial funds to help get the Society off the ground.
In response to huge public demand, a decision was taken to make
the McGuffins Quiz a regular event. Since April 2001 the Quiz has
become a fixture in the main bar of the Rose & Crown and is
now a well established local event. Thanks to the generosity of
supporters and a substantial donation from the archives of the EMD
Cinema, the Quiz has also acquired an enviable reputation for its
high quality prizes of rare (and often very valuable) film and TV
memorabilia and collectables. The McGuffins Quiz caters for a broad
variety of tastes with subjects covering the widest range of film
and TV genres. It is designed to be a fun night out both for hardened
cinephiles and the casual filmgoer alike. The Film and TV Quiz is
written, organised and presented by volunteers with all funds raised
donated to the McGuffin Film & Television Society.
