WALTHAM FOREST ON FILM
A free one day film festival to mark five years since the closure of the EMD Cinema and highlight the influence of Waltham Forest on the world of film.
VENUE: Victoria Bar, 186 Hoe Street (adj. EMD Cinema), London E17.
Programme includes Alfred Hitchcock’s early thriller ‘Number 17’, the rare film biography of the world famous Walthamstow artist William Morris ‘News From Nowhere’ and ‘It Was An Accident’, an exciting feature film starring Chiwetel Ejiofor and Thandie Newton which was filmed entirely on location in Waltham Forest. The borough’s close association with the birth of British cinema will be examined in ‘Hollywood E17’, the first of several documentaries exploring aspects of local life and history including ‘Walthamstow Market: A Portrait’, ‘The Collectors of Wood Street’, two short films about the EMD and much more.

SILENT FILM NIGHT
A relaxed and informal evening of classic silent films accompanied by specially scored music performed live by the E17 Jazz ensemble.
VENUE: Victoria Bar, 186 Hoe Street (adj. EMD Cinema), London E17. Programme includes the beautifully restored 1925 Lon Chaney horror classic ‘The Phantom of the Opera’, Buster Keaton’s hilarious comedy of mishaps and mistaken identity ‘Cops’ plus shorts, rare footage and surprises!

Big screen cinema returns to Waltham Forest… for one night only! The sixth annual McGuffins Open Air Cinema takes place in Walthamstow town centre on Saturday 12 July. Classic Hollywood musical ‘On the Town’ will be shown on a giant screen to be erected in the town square and gardens, transforming central Walthamstow into a massive free outdoor cinema.

THE McGUFFINS HALLOWEEN FILM NIGHT

SCARS OF DRACULA

The Prince of Darkness returns from the grave when his ashes are splashed with bat’s blood and the cursed village of Kleinenberg is once again subjected to a reign of supernatural terror and mayhem. This classic 1970 Hammer spinechiller stars Christopher Lee, Patrick Troughton, Jenny Hanley and Dennis Waterman and will be shown on the McGuffins big screen.
The Halloween Film Night will also offer a rare chance to see “It’s Only A Movie”, a tongue-in-cheek documentary produced by MTV which examines the history of horror films. “It’s Only A Movie” is presented by Karen Hayley and was filmed on location at Walthamstow’s EMD Cinema shortly before its closure.
In addition, there will be a screening of the short supernatural thriller ‘The Thai Bride’ which was premiered on Channel 4 earlier this year to rave reviews.
The evening will include a raffle to win “The Ghoulish Goodie Bag from Beyond the Grave” containing Horror DVDs, T-shirts and other essential Halloween accoutrements. There will also be a table-based quiz round which can be completed between films to win further chilling prizes.
Admission free.
Broomsticks may be left by the main door.
